Angela Waltner was born in Oberstaufen in southern Germany in 1970. From 1992 to 1995, she studied at the Mittenwald lutherie school. She then worked for two years restoring instruments, specialising in French romantic guitars. Angela also has a degree from the University of Applied Sciences for Musical Instrument Making in Markneukirchen. Her extensive university training has given her a scientific background and a keen sense of analysis. Over the years, these strengths have helped Angela to build up a international reputation.
The superb guitar shown here is her ‘Koncert’ model. The quality of the craftsmanship demonstrates the know-how of this luthier. Soundwise, it's a powerful, responsive, homogeneous instrument with a polyphonic discourse of great precision. The notes are clear, vibrant and colourful. The tone is woody and expressive. This guitar also features the FABS (Free Adjustable Bridge System) developed by Angela. This system uses a bridge saddle divided into three removable parts that can be easily manipulated (even when the strings are taut) to give each string its own independent length for a perfect fit. Angela Waltner's work combines personal talent with a vast scientific knowledge and understanding of the evolution of the guitar, and this guitar shows how she has managed to get the best out of all these elements, as demonstrated by this remarkable instrument.
