Erik Pierre Hofmann was born in France in 1972. He started repairing guitars at the age of 17 and opened his business in southern Burgundy a decade later. Although restoration, research and expertise quickly became predominant areas of his work, he maintains a small production of classical guitars and guitars modelled on historical originals. His list of customers includes Benoît Albert, Pierre Pitzl, Brigitte Zaczek and the Musée de la Lutherie et de l’Archèterie françaises in Mirecourt. In 2011, he opened his own publishing house “Les Éditions des Robins” to issue Stauffer & Co. - The Viennese Guitar of the 19th Century, co-written with Pascal Mougin and Stefan Hackl. This first book was followed by Franz Schubert - 39 Songs with Guitar Accompaniment, edited by Stefan Hackl. Erik has also published articles in form of free PDFs, including A Royal Gift - Marie-Louise and the Guitar (the English version of his article first published in Il Fronimo), The Marriage of Pierre René Parinaud dit Lacote by Catherine Marlat and The Guitar à la Sagrini by himself. As author, he has also signed articles for various specialised magazines (Les Cahiers de la Guitare, Il Fronimo, Orfeo magazine etc.) and the 6th edition of the Oxford Dictionary of Music. In 2021, Erik was granted the title of Master Craftsman. He is also a laureate of the "Fondation de France" and won the "Prix des Métiers d'Art" in 2001 and 2022. This is a guitar built in 2000. The aesthetic is sober and elegant. The craftsmanship is well done. Soundwise, it's a well-balanced instrument. The notes are clear, responsive, vibrant and rich in harmonics with a good sustain. The timbre is warm, woody and expressive. Its small size, fast response and beautiful musicality make it a pleasant, easy-to-play instrument.
