Gilles Mercier lived and worked in Aix-en-Provence. In 2000 he won the competition for the "best craftsman" in France with this model, later called the Sainte Cécile (St Cecilia). Mercier's initial training as a violin luthier has influenced his guitar making, especially as regards the polyphonic qualities of this instrument: characteristically, its distinct voices contribute to the clarity and intelligibility of the musical discourse.
It has a round bass, a mellow middle register and a clear treble — all perfectly balanced. The depth and mellowness of its timbre endow this instrument with an almost spiritual quality. This Sainte Cécile guitar gloriously lives up to its name!
