Manuel Contreras Sr was born in Madrid in 1928. Initially a cabinetmaker, an activity in which he acquired a great reputation, he began his professional activity as a guitar maker. After three years of training in the workshop of José Ramírez III, he opened his own workshop in 1962.
In this instrument, built in 1975, we find all the know-how and the skills of this great luthier from Madrid. The woods are superb (like the Brazilian rosewood on the back and sides) and the workmanship is of high quality. Soundwise, we get all the specificities of the Madrid sound of that epoch: powerful, a good balance between round and deep basses and clear and flexible trebles, the notes are dense and solid, with a warm and expressive tone that gives this guitar an endearing character.
