In 1979, Peter Barton moved from his native London to West Yorkshire. Attracted by woodworking and instrument making, he found a position at West Dean College School of Arts and Crafts. Under the direction of Roger Rose, he learned the various traditional methods of making early music stringed instruments (lutes, baroque guitars, viols, violins, cellos, etc.). In 1986, Peter Barton set up his own workshop in Addingham, specializing in the construction of classical guitars. Since then, he has built over 200 instruments, and the quality of his work has earned him an international reputation.
The aesthetics are superb and the lutherie work perfectly executed. In terms of sound, you can hear the talent and expertise this luthier has acquired over the years. Notes are dense and rich in overtones. The timbre is warm and woody, developing an expressive, lyrical musicality. A very beautiful guitar to discover for those unfamiliar with the work of this English luthier.
